We are proud to announce that Christian Borg, co-founder of Merill Rural Network and Chief Executive at SEED, has been awarded Green Entrepreneur of the Year at the GreenBiz Awards Malta 2025. The award celebrates individuals and businesses that are making a tangible impact through environmentally sustainable practices - and Christian’s leadership stood out for his commitment to creating positive change in rural communities across Malta.
The GreenBiz Awards are a national initiative organised by Thrivers Malta, with the goal of recognising micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises that offer eco-solutions in their everyday operations. From packaging and processes to business models and services, the award highlights the many ways in which Maltese entrepreneurs are rethinking sustainability.
Merill, supported by SEED Projects, submitted Christian Borg's candidacy to highlight the power of community-based tourism as a tool for circular economy, cultural preservation, and rural regeneration. The nomination focused not only on the environmental benefits of Merill’s tourism model, but also on its ethical sourcing, digital innovation, and capacity to scale.
Winning this award confirms that Merill's long-term efforts to empower the rural communities - through trust, collaboration and shared values - are both timely and impactful.
