MaYA Foundation – Malta Youth in Agriculture Foundation works to support and strengthen Malta’s agricultural community, with a particular focus on young farmers, sustainability, innovation and the future of the sector.

We work closely with farmers, rural communities and other stakeholders in Malta and beyond, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and new ideas.

 

 

We are looking for a Field Officer to join MaYA Foundation on a freelance basis.

We are looking for someone who knows the local agricultural sector and, importantly, knows how to work with the people within it.

The role will involve regular contact with farmers, breeders and other stakeholders, visits to farms and rural areas, coordination of activities, and general support for MaYA’s ongoing and upcoming initiatives.

Some days will involve working independently on the ground; others will involve coordinating closely with the MaYA team and our wider network.
This is not a rigid, task-by-task role. We are looking for someone who can take ownership, use their initiative and become a trusted presence within the communities we work with.

 

 

 

 

 

You might be a great fit if you:

​

• speak Maltese and English confidently

• know how to communicate and build relationships with farmers and breeders

• have a good understanding of Malta’s agricultural sector, its realities and its terminology

• have experience in project management or coordination

• are comfortable working independently and taking initiative

• also enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team

• are organised, reliable and practical

• are willing and able to travel to farms and rural areas across Malta

• are comfortable adapting to different people, places and situations

A particular degree or academic background is not essential. We are more interested in experience, attitude, local knowledge and the ability to connect with people.

Due to the nature of the role and the locations involved, having your own means of transport is highly recommended.
